The Chalet Fontana in Murren is rated #1 on www.tripadvisor.com and it's the best bargain in the alps. Denise is a fantastic hostess and keeps the Chalet spotlessly clean and neat AND serves a hearty breakfast. There are loads of things to see and do in the Lauterbrunnen Valley and surrounding mountain villages of Murren, Gimmelwald and Wengen.

I think Murren is easier to get to/from (21 minutes Wengen->Lauterbrunnen and only 19 minutes Murren->Lauterbrunnen). I also think Murren is more authentic of a Swiss Village than the more glitzy Wengen. Wengen has lots more souvenir shops and restaurants and hotels.
